There Is Only One Big Mac

There is only one Big Mac.

This news is brought to you from a Big Mac box that originally held the Big Mac hamburger that I had today.

I don't ordinarily go to McDonald's, but certain things about my life have changed. So there I was, confronted with a choice, and this was my choice.

I used to eat Big Macs a lot. I remember eating them back in the 70s and even consciously thinking, "I wonder how many more Big Macs I'll eat in my life." Because back then I was eating a lot of them. But in recent years, like I said, not so many.

I like the box and the very direct slogan, "There is only one Big Mac."

A Night For Salmon

It reminds me of the Seinfeld where Kramer was making a link between Salmon Rushdie and salmon the fish. That's what I've been thinking of.

Tonight was a night for salmon. I was at the store and saw some frozen salmon in a bag and it didn't seem like too much, so I got a bag.

It's frozen but thaws out pretty fast in some lukewarm water. And it cooks fast under a broiler. The pack says five minutes but I let it go longer than that, plus I flipped it over.

It was good. I had two filets, leaving me two left in the bag. That's something I don't eat very often. I believe I had it only once before, out of a can. This was definitely better.

Disturbing The Jelly Beds

We went out for breakfast today, so i witnessed the sad sight of jelly being disturbed in its bed.

What a rude awakening, to have the covers ripped off you, then not only to be exposed to the cold but to have a cold knife thrust into you and to find your hide chafing against a piece of rough toast.

The looked very comfortable, too, the strawberry and the grape. Like they thought it'd always be that way. And some in the back room probably still have that hope.

Some are taken, some are left.

Summer Sausage And The Fixins'

Guess what I've been eating the last few days, which is a weird thing to eat: Blue Cheese.

I've bought blue cheese before and didn't always get far with it. But I got some for a Christmas party the other day and was spreading it on crackers and enjoying it. So I went and got another one. It comes in triangles, the brand I buy, which is Maytag Blue Cheese.

I was offering some to someone at the party, but I was very upfront about it, informing her that the blue stuff is mold. Of course at that point she didn't want any. But I think it's good mold, not bad. Like good bacteria.

Some of that, and the crackers, and some summer sausage, and other cheese, and a few jalapenos, makes for a very nice snack while sitting around. I didn't actually have any dinner, just a plate of this stuff.

P.S. Maytag Blue Cheese comes in triangles at the grocery store. Online, it looks like it comes in circles. Circles, triangles. A square would be nice too.

Enjoyed Some Tacos

I just enjoyed six tacos that I get from a Mexican restaurant in my town that I like. I like it but all I ever get are tacos. I got a burrito there once and didn't care for it particularly. But I love the tacos!

I'm the only one in my household who likes the place. So that doesn't make for very many outings together. I only go stag, get my stuff to go, and bring it home.

This is my second dose of tacos there in three days. I normally cherish them and guide them tenderly in my mouth, etc. I think tonight I felt a little more jaded. I ate them about the same way but didn't enjoy them quite as much.

I might need to lay off getting them for a while ... then it'll be special again.

Eating At The Chinese Place

It's a good place to eat, a Chinese restaurant. One, you get plenty of options, since they always have a buffet.

We were there a couple days ago, eating out with some friends who invited us. I like all the ways they make chicken. Some with sauce, some buffalo wings, some regular wings, some that's an entirely different color, etc.

I load up on a few things ... then most things I don't take any of.

The stuff at a Chinese restaurant that doesn't always look as appealing as it should are the deserts. They don't seem to have a good sense of what a decent desert should like like. Maybe having those clam shells sitting there (they didn't have when we were there) takes away the appeal of everything around them. But even the little cakes don't look all that appetizing.

Anyway, for the most part we enjoy our excursions out ... to the exotic confines of the Chinese restaurant.

Tea A Luxury

I saw a catalog for a tea merchant a couple days ago. But it was a catalog from 2007 so I didn't pick it up. I figured, look up their website, which I did.

It sounds great, the whole concept of tea. Drinking it. Savoring it. Which I do.

Yesterday I had this in mind. So when I got up I went and made a couple cups of tea ... one for now, one for a little later. Green tea. It's pretty good. Not a lot of taste to it, but you hear it has benefits.

After a while, I don't know why, I felt a little queasy. But I was OK for the most part.

Tea usually is one of those things that seems good for you. I hope it is. The catalog was from a place called teasource.com. I visited that site. I'm not promoting it. I don't have any financial or personal connection to it.

They had a slogan in the catalog that was something like "The most economical luxury." It had something to do with tea being a luxury, yet not being expensive like most luxuries. That's a great selling point.

But you can get plenty of decent tea just at the grocery store without ordering it. But I suppose if you want something wildly exotic, you need to check around.

A Good 5 Cent Cup Of Tea

What this country needs is something that costs 5 cents. I haven't priced cigars lately but I believe they're quite a bit higher. And I know a cup of coffee, except at some interstate gas stations trying to lure you in for a quarter a cup, is at least a dollar. Of course it's more at trendier places.

What there is that I can think of that could be offered at a nickel a cup is tea. Sometimes you can get 100 teabags at the grocery store for right at a dollar or just over. So if your overhead in your tea supply, at retail, is right around penny per teabag, that's very cheap. And think, a restaurant could probably get them cheaper wholesale.

So a place could very reasonably offer an actual 5 cent cup of tea and still make money. Especially if you paired it with bagels, which could be a dollar or more.

It irks me to go to a place and have iced tea at $1.50 or $2.00 or more. They're making a killing. It's like popcorn at the theater.

Worked Up A Tabasco Sweat

I was scratching my head and noticed I've got a sweat going.

I just got done eating some meat with Tabasco sauce all over it. To me that's a taste delicacy. If I can't taste anything except the Tabasco sauce.

The other day I had it and my mouth was actually hot. I needed to drink some extra water. Usually it doesn't bother me but it did the other day.

Today it didn't bother me. I'm fine. But it makes my nose run and my face is perspiring. Including the top of my head.

The other day I looked in the mirror and my face was actually red. So that's some weird corpuscle action going on.

I have the theory that Tabasco sauce is good for you. That it kills something. You know, whatever. I'm not a doctor. Just a theorist.

Chuck E. Cheese

The other day we went out to eat ... [in disappointed voice], The Olive Garden.

But we could've gone to Chuck E. Cheese! [Yea!!!!]

We went there one time. What a freaky experience. Ha ha.

Stood In Line Twice Tonight

We went out to eat, but it required two separate places and two separating standings in line.

I hate that. There was one road, though, where we turn. And usually (always) there's cars coming from both sides and we get to wait, wait, wait. But tonight for some unknown reason there wasn't anyone coming! I said it was so nice we should drive around the block and see if it happens again. But we didn't.

So we went to the one restaurant (Mexican). And they were just making fresh (chicken), so would I mind waiting an extra six minutes? No, OK...Then some guy who came in three minutes after I did was out the door ahead of me. No kidding.

Then we went to the other restaurant. And they seemed busy. A few orders were up. A guy ahead of me didn't realize he could press on ahead. He was looking at the menu. It was all the same, though. We weren't going to be waited on any sooner if he pressed ahead.

Finally, all the restaurant waiting out of the way, we went home with the takeout and were able to eat. How delicious!

The Moss Of Imagination

I wish I could get the moss I had when I first got up today. My mind was running fast, flying over fields of thought. Very manic and fun.

The thing about thought. It has to do with your rest, your dreams, and whatever other place moods come from. At those times, bottle it!

By the time of lunch, then certainly after you have the food and that languor of digestion going on, you feel like everything's slowed down.

This is one reason I should be eating a light salad for lunch. Get that discipline.

I love a good crouton.

Another Interesting Rib

This rib definitely has some meat on it.

Rachael Ray's Ribs

That's a very proud rib right there in the center.

Cutting Chickens

Last night I had to cut four chickens into pieces. I don't know much about cutting chickens. But I know there's a method to it.

I was thinking of it like a zen master, thinking I could delicately slice through it by following the vibe of the bones or something. But it didn't work that way.

I checked out the Betty Crocker cookbook on "How to cut a chicken into pieces," but what I had was a description without pictures. So it's referring to various things and I ended up improvising after all.

The legs -- to get them off is no trouble. The wings too. But to slice through and separate the thighs, that's tricky. Then the breasts section doesn't feel to me like it has any natural cutting places.

I'd sure like to know how to do it -- whack whack slice done -- but I'm going to need an instructional video or someone in person to show me the tricks.

Cold Watermelon

I had a piece of cold watermelon today. It was better than warm watermelon.

I really like it when you get a decent seedless one. None of the fuss and muss of spitting seeds like in the old days. Just munching it down like a glutton.

It's one of the foods of summer!

Baby Back Ribs

They're out of baby back ribs? You can't tell me they haven't got baby hogs going through the grinder!

The Fat Crown Seller

I have a vast inventory of crowns for sale. And I am extremely fat. How did this happen?

You see, I eat a lot of Imperial margarine. And whenever I take a bite, I hear the flourish of a trumpet and a crown instantly appears on my head.

Taking off the crowns over the years meant finding something to do with them, which led to a lucrative sideline of sales. Beautiful crowns too.

I learned that if I take smaller bites, I can get smaller crowns. Therefore I've expanded my clientele to include dentists, crowns for teeth.

Oyster Stew

Yesterday I did something mad that I periodically do, which is to eat oyster stew.

It always make me feel weird internally down in the abdominal region. And there's some kind of after effects up here too, in the head. It's not that pleasant.

It's great going down, but you should never overdo it. I used an entire can of oysters, which is 8 ounces.

Good stuff.
