What's the deal with the name "Lloyd"?

How did they ever come up with a name that starts with two of the same letter? Kind of like Aaron in that regard. "Aaron, mmeet Lloyd." "PPleased tto mmeet yyou, Lloyd."

It's a waste of letters!
